Marketing Types and Execution for Success

Marketing is a beast. Its departments are comprised of multiple silos for it to be effective. Depending on the size or your organization and who you are trying to target, your marketing initiatives will most likely require a team. That way, each of the marketing responsibilities will get the attention that is needed to be successful.

Below I will talk about the five different types of marketing and how they can help with your organization.

Search Engine Marketing

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is the use of paid ads to get your product at the top of the page. Search is a competitive landscape. It is meant to target those who have the intention of purchasing your product or service. SEM is viewed as a valuable skillset in marketing because it’s conversion-driven and therefore quantifiable.

Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the form of marketing that drives users to your website organically. The reason why I’ve separated  SEO and SEM, is because they are different functions of search. To learn more about the difference, visit SEO vs SEM.

SEO is meant to attract traffic to your website through quality content, usage of links and keywords that are searched by your target audience. Compelling content will increase the chances of your blog being linked or referenced in other websites, which in turn will generate increased traffic to your website.

Social Media Marketing

HubSpot’s definition of Social Media Marketing is creating content through social media platforms to promote your products or services. Social Media Marketing can help increase awareness of your brand, increase traffic to your website, drive lead conversions and serve as a communications platform to your customers.

Social Media Marketing content can be organic or paid.

  • Organic content is content that is a regular post without any influence of paid marketing.
  • Paid content is content that created that’s boosted through paid advertising. Paid content is meant to reach target audiences that are most likely to visit your website or proceed with a transaction.

 

Email Marketing

Email Marketing is used to reach audiences who have opted to receive emails from your organization. It’s often in the form of newsletters, promotions or reminders. The contents of an email must contain valuable information to serve your target audience or else they will likely unsubscribe from your email list.

Influencer Marketing

Influencer Marketing is meant to increase brand awareness and drive conversions through the endorsement of someone who either has a large following or has a valuable network of individuals that are your target audience.

Influencers have the capability to ‘influence’ key actions and will help increase conversions if done properly. Auditing who their audiences are is a key component of effectively choosing the right influencers for your campaign.

For example, if you are a direct to consumer fitness company, you’ll most likely choose influencers who post content about the subject with a following that cares about that content.

Overall, marketing has many moving parts that require attention. This list isn’t a full list of the different types of marketing.
